THE ARGAN STORY
The argan tree grows only in the semi-desert soil of south-western Morocco. For hundreds of years the Berber people of the area relied on argan oil for medicinal, cosmetic and nutritional purposes. The tree has become endangered and is now under the protection of UNESCO. Cooperatives of local women have been formed to extract and produce the valuable argan oil. The quality of living has improved greatly for these women as they now have income and opportunities that never existed for them before.
